New Ranking Reveals Maryland's Top Quality Grocery Stores

We all have our go-to grocery store in Maryland, but how does it fare in terms of quality and other metrics compared to the rest?

The data analytics company Dunnhumby assists customers in navigating this dilemma through its seventh annual Retailer Preference Index, which was released earlier this year. This index comprises the 65 largest U.S. retailers offering everyday food and non-food items.

In the overall rankings, Texas-based H-E-B secured the top position as the premier U.S. grocery store, closely followed by Amazon, Costco, Market Basket, Sam’s Club, Wegmans, Aldi, ShopRite, Walmart Neighborhood Market stores, and Walmart, respectively.

When considering quality alone, the rankings take a different turn. H-E-B, placed at No. 7, is surpassed by Wegmans, which claims the top spot. Following Wegmans are Trader Joe’s, The Fresh Market, Sprouts Farmers Market, Fresh Thyme Market, and Publix, respectively. The top 10 is rounded out by Big Y, Harris Teeter, and Lowes Foods.

In the quality category, the top-ranking stores in Maryland are as follows:

    1st place: Wegmans
    2nd place: Trader Joe’s
    3rd place: The Fresh Market
    4th place: Sprouts Farmers Market
    9th place: Harris Teeter
