Maryland Weather: Strong Storms Possible This Evening

    2024-08-07

BALTIMORE — This evening, Maryland may experience severe weather conditions as a weather front approaches the area. Thunderstorms are expected to develop, with the highest likelihood of severe storms extending into Pennsylvania. If these storms reach Maryland, they could bring damaging winds and heavy rain, increasing the risk of flash flooding.

Tonight, temperatures will drop into the 70s under mostly cloudy skies, with ongoing chances for showers and storms. The front is projected to reach Baltimore by Wednesday morning, bringing continued cloudiness and precipitation. Highs on Wednesday will be cooler, peaking in the lower 80s.

As the remnants of Tropical Storm Debby advance, widespread rain is forecasted for Thursday, with temperatures reaching the upper 70s. Heavy rainfall is expected from Friday afternoon through Saturday morning, especially along and west of I-95. Rain totals might exceed 4 inches in some areas, while 2 to 3 inches is likely across the Eastern Shore and southern Maryland.

The system is advancing more quickly than originally predicted, so rain is expected to taper off by Saturday afternoon. Drier weather will follow for the remainder of the weekend, with temperatures in the upper 70s to around 80 degrees. Dry conditions are expected to continue into next week, with a chance of showers and storms returning by Tuesday and Wednesday. Nighttime temperatures will drop into the lower 60s over the weekend.

    Safety Precautions:

    • Stay updated with local weather alerts.
    • Avoid unnecessary travel during severe storms.
    • Prepare for potential flooding by relocating valuables to higher ground.
    • Secure outdoor items that could be displaced by strong winds.

Stay safe and monitor weather updates as conditions can evolve quickly.
