Jordan Brand’s limited-edition $300 Air Jordan 17 Low releases continue this month with the rerelease of an original style.

Set to return before the end of August is the Air Jordan 17 Retro Low SP “University Blue.” The low-cut sneaker uses a mostly white leather upper and is accented with large portions of North Carolina -inspired light blue. Chrome silver detailing appears throughout, giving the shoe a premium feel. Unique features of the Air Jordan 17 Low model include an inner sleeve designed to hug the foot and a shiny chrome heel tab which comes covered with a protective sticker.

To further elevate the limited-edition affair — and perhaps justify its inflated price point — this Air Jordan Retro eschews a traditional cardboard box in favor of a metal briefcase. Longtime Air Jordan aficionados may remember the original Air Jordan 17s from 2002 coming housed in the same packaging, although the Air Jordan 17 Lows did not actually come in the briefcase. Rewritten history aside, the $300 price tag didn’t dissuade fans from buying this year’s first Air Jordan 17 Low, the “Lightning” colorway which was released in May.

A somewhat overlooked sneaker in the Air Jordan canon, the Air Jordan 17 was designed by Wilson Smith III. The shoes feature intricate details referencing Michael Jordan’s love of jazz music, and the accompanying briefcase was inspired by the carrying cases used by musicians.

Like the aforementioned “Lightning” pair, readers should expect limited availability for this Air Jordan 17 Retro Low SP “University Blue.” As of now, it’s expected to be released from select Jordan Brand NBHD stores on August 28 for a retail price of $300. An online release from Nike’s SNKRS platform has not been confirmed.
