The North Face’s Innovative Offtrail Sneaker Features Kevlar Reinforcements, Speed-Lacing and a Hefty Tread

The North Face has launched an innovative new sneaker designed to handle tough terrain at the intersection of hiking and running.

The North Face Offtrail TR sneaker is out with two different builds, one with a Boa dial for quick adjustments and the other with a more traditional lacing system and Gore-Tex waterproofing.

The former, dubbed the Summit Series Offtrail TR , was developed with the help of TNF athletes and features a Boa Li2 dial as part of a system with a three-strap construction and protective shroud with a stretchy inner gaiter. At the forefoot, you’ll find overlasted Matryx fabric with Kevlar reinforcements for stability, protection and reinforcements, while ripstop is used for the heel. The sole unit is then made up of a high-rebound EVA midsole sitting atop a Surface Ctrl outsole with 7mm lugs. A forefoot rubber wrap bolsters grip and protection while boasting 10 percent rubber from smallholder farms committed to sustainable practices.

Appearing like a more typical outdoor sneaker with its lacing system, the Offtrail TR Gore-Tex boasts a waterproof membrane and more cushioning than its higher-priced counterpart with 24mm at the heel and 18 at the forefoot compared to 18mm and 12mm. Its upper also features the same mix of Kevlar-reinforced Matryx fabric and ripstrop, while its Surface CTRL outsole shortens its lugs to 5mm. Both versions of the shoe also feature a lightweight Skcore rockguard beneath the forefoot.

The North Face Summit Series Offtrail TR and Offtrail TR Gore-Tex are both out now through TNF’s website, with the former priced at $199 and the latter $179. While the Summit series build is available exclusively in gold and black, the Gore-Tex version also has options in taupe and grey, tonal grey and all-black.
