Although it was a little warm on Saturday, July 20. That didn’t stop Sherwood residents from flocking to the 71st annual the Robin Hood Festival and Parade in Old Town Sherwood. The parade, whose theme was “Magical Merriment,” drew dancers, actors, bands and a handful of floats. It began at Langer’s Entertainment Center, headed down Southwest Century Drive, snaked down Sherwood Boulevard and finally onto Pine, First and Oregon streets before disbanding at the same location where it started. WRITERS ON THE RANGE: Before you sleep on the ground, read this
What fun: You’re going on a guided outdoor trip. As you get ready, here are some tips from actual guides about what to expect, as these patient men and women have experienced a few trips that did not go well. First, follow the packing list. Do not leave your raingear at home because your brother tells you it never rains in the desert. If it is 100 degrees in the shade at your house and the list recommends a down parka: bring it. It can...

OPINION: Biden and 'The Emperor's New Clothes'
Remember the classic story, “The Emperor’s New Clothes”? Tailors come to town and convince the king that their fabric is the finest in the land. They pretend to drape out cloth that no one can see. They proclaim to the king, “Have you seen such fine and exquisite material?" The king tries on the new clothes and his courtesans, out of fear of offending the king, agree, knowing they only see a naked royal. ...
OPINION: Electric vehicles aren't to blame for lack of Hall Boulevard repair
This letter is in response to the letter from Patti Waitman-Ingebretsen ("It's time to fix up Hall Boulevard") in the July 11 edition. I agree with the letter on the state of Hall Boulevard and hope that things will improve under the stewardship of the county and local cities. However, I do have to disagree with the sanctimonious view that electric vehicle owners do not pay for road maintenance. Since January 2020, EV registration rates in Oregon are up to $190 more than gas vehicles for the two-year period. This is approximately the same amount a 20 mpg gas vehicle would pay in gas taxes for 10,000 miles driven a year. This fact does not seem to be widely known as I see anti-EV propaganda often state that EVs don't pay their share for road maintenance.
OPINION: Four former school board members should pay for their illegal actions
It's a no-brainer: Dave Brown, Brian Shannon, Renee Powell and Trevor DeHart should pay $370,000 back to the Newberg school district for their illegal actions. It all began when seven concerned citizens took these four to court for violating public meeting laws. (They also had to name the school district, as it is not allowed to name only individuals). Yamhill County Circuit Court Judge Cynthia Easterday ruled these four board members illegally met secretly to conspire to hire an attorney aligned with their political goals, even though the district already had an attorney. Now the school owes $370,000 for the attorney fees. But the school can take Dave, Brian, Renee and Trevor to court to try to get the money from them. This is a no-brainer. Dave, Brian, Renee and Trevor should pay the school back for their illegal actions.
