OPINION: Invest in our future with Banks school bond

    By Deborah Deegan,

    2024-05-10

I would like to share why I will vote yes on Bond Measure 34-336.

Our family has made Banks home for 30 years. We feel fortunate to live in such a wonderful community that offers so much for children, such as a good education and sports programs in a safe environment.

While our children are now grown, we feel it is very important that future generations have the same opportunities. Many of the district’s buildings are appallingly unsafe. Modern, safe buildings in good repair will enhance learning, a sense of pride, and well-being for both students and staff and address issues such as mold and earthquake resistance that our aging infrastructure cannot adequately.

The Banks school system is a huge contributor to the quality of life in our small town, and a bit of our culture is built on events at the school. The young people attending Banks High School will one day (hopefully) be contributing members of our society, and we need to offer them the best we can to allow every young person to grow to be healthy, involved and well-educated citizens.

These last few years have been difficult on many families financially, and there is a lot of uncertainty about what the future might bring. I understand, as I have the same concerns. On Measure 34-336 I feel I must vote yes; It is the right thing to do for our community.

I ask you to join me in voting yes today, and invest in our future.
