A Hillsboro high school marching band is heading overseas to sound in the new, new year.

On Thursday, Sept. 26, Glencoe High School’s marching band formally accepted an invitation to perform in the London News Year’s Day Parade on the first day of 2026.

During their visit, Glencoe students will be able to explore the historic city over a week — performing in the parade and immersing themselves in the culture by visiting museums, historic sites and other places of architectural and artistic significance.

The parade, which marks its 40th anniversary on Jan. 1, 2026, features musical acts, animals, decked-out vehicles and more in an occasion that has attracted millions of in-person spectators. Like previous years, the event will be streamed across the world — including in the United States on the PBS network.

“We only wanted the very best marching bands for our 40th anniversary event and know that the (Glencoe Marching Tide) has a terrific track record and reputation,” Bob Bone, founder and chair of the London New Year’s Day Parade, said in a release.
