    Sports Briefs - May 2, 2024

    The Forest Lake baseball team went on the road for some Suburban East Conference action at East Ridge High School on Wednesday, April 24, where the Rangers saw themselves fall to the Raptors by a final score of 4-2. The boys struggled to find a rhythm on the offensive end, resulting in just a pair of runs scored.

    The Rangers then aimed to bounce back at home on Saturday, April 27, but lost at the hand of the Duluth East Greyhounds 10-1. The team is currently 2-4-1 roughly a quarter into its 2024 season.

    Girls lacrosse

    The Forest Lake girls lacrosse team lost to Park of Cottage Grove at home on Wednesday, April 24, falling by a final score of 14-1. Junior Maren Wallinga helped the Rangers avoid a shutout by tabbing a goal in the second quarter of play.

    On Friday, April 26, the girls fell to White Bear Lake by way of a 14-3 final. Junior Anna Ruka tallied a goal, while junior captain Rylen Kissell and sophomore Lydia Balfany each added a score in the loss. The Rangers hosted another contest with Tartan on Monday, April 29, and ultimately came away with its first win of the season in a 14-7 final score. With the win, the girls are now 1-5 on the season.

    Girls track and field

    The Forest Lake girls track and field team took part in the Roseville Invite meet on Tuesday, April 23, at Roseville Area High School. In the 3200m finals, freshman Molly McCarthy claimed first-place on a time of 11:45.42, while Maeta Williams took fourth in 12:25.12. In the 1600m format, a trio of Rangers finished in the top four–junior Norah Hushagen, along with sophomores Anna VanAcker and Aaliyah Rogers–all finishing the race in 5:16.41, 5:28.59 and 5:33.46, respectively.

    Freshman Lucy Saari took second in the 800m run finals, with junior Savana Sanchez also recording a second-place finish in the long jump category. Sophomore Alexix Fahey took home first-place in the discus finals, earning a mark of 137-08.00. Maja Henslin, a senior, would take second in the shot put aspect with a 36-09.50.

    On Friday, April 26, the girls then participated in the Hamline Elite meet. Hushagen took ninth in the 3200m, while Fahey once again won the shot put format. Sanchez would earn seventh-place in the long jump.

    On Saturday, April 27, the girls ran in the Booster Invitational at Eden Prairie High School. Sanchez won the 100m dash finals in a time of 12.91, before Fahey kept up her impressive streak of first-place finishes in the discus. Henslin and Fahey both grabbed the top two spots in the shot put, while senior Makayla Miles took second in the pole vault–with junior Ellyana Stamp coming in right behind Miles in third. McCarthy placed second in the 1600m finals in 5:31.97.

    Boys track and field

    The Forest Lake boys track and field team went to Roseville Area High School on Tuesday, April 23, and took part in the Roseville Invite. Senior Reid Olson put on a show–recording first-place finishes in both the 110m and 300m hurdles. Senior Cam Mata won the triple jump format with a 42-11.00 mark, while senior Mark Sieben took third in discus. Senior Logan Hays earned a 2:04.94 time in the 800m, good enough for third place.

    The boys went to Eden Prairie High School for the Booster Invitational on Saturday, April 27. Olson led the way for the Rangers in the 110 meter hurdles, earning second on a 15.09 mark. Olson then claimed first in the 300m hurdle finals with a 40.32. Tyler Walters, a senior, took third in 42.59. Mata took home third-place in the triple jump finals, with sophomore Jamison Livermore taking third in the pole vault format.

    Boys lacrosse

    The Forest Lake boys lacrosse team went on the road for a contest at Park of Cottage Grove on Wednesday, April 24, but lost by a final score of 12-8. Senior Ezra Lukas was the star for the Rangers that night, scoring three goals and adding an assist in the loss, while sophomore Levi Hageman totaled two goals and an assist as well. Junior Ethan Coleman was also productive, tallying two goals.

    The boys then battled it out on the road once again with SEC rival White Bear Lake on Friday, April 26, where the Rangers fell 20-5. Lukas added three goals in the loss, while Coleman and senior Zack Wuotila each tallied a goal. Following the week’s action, the Rangers are 0-5 on the year and search for its first victory of the season.
