    Sports Briefs - May 30, 2024

    The Forest Lake baseball team ended its regular season with a shutout 8-0 win at Anoka on Wednesday, May 22, finishing the year with a 9-11 record. The Rangers will kick off the Section 7AAAA tournament on Wednesday, May 29, at 4:30 p.m. at Schumacher Field against the Duluth East Greyhounds.

    Softball

    The top-seeded Forest Lake softball team posted a 15-4 regular season record on the 2024 campaign, setting up a Section 7AAAA battle with the No. 4 seeded Anoka Tornadoes on Saturday, May 25 where the Rangers came away with a dominant 12-1 victory. With the win, the girls faced off with Andover Huskies later that same day, ultimately winning by way of a 7-5 final score. Forest Lake with face the winner of a matchup between Blaine or Coon Rapids and Andover in the Section 7AAAA title game this Thursday, May 30, at 5:30 p.m.

    Girls lacrosse

    The Forest Lake girls lacrosse team closed its season out with a 15-3 loss to Chisago Lakes on Wednesday, May 22, as the Rangers finished the year with a 2-11 overall record. The squad began its beginning Section 7A play on Tuesday, May 28, after press time, against the Andover Huskies on the road. With a win, the girls would advance to the next round of the tournament to square off with a No. 3-seeded Duluth team.

    Boys lacrosse

    The Forest Lake boys lacrosse team played its final regular season game of the year on Wednesday, May 22, falling to Chisago Lakes in a close 11-8 final score. The boys finished its campaign with a 1-12 record, and began section play on Tuesday, May 28 after press time where the Rangers squared off with Champlin Park.

    Girls golf

    The Forest Lake girls golf team placed third among 10 teams at Oak Glen Golf Course for the Suburban East Conference tournament on Thursday, May 23. The Ranger girls earned a final score of 349, just eight strokes behind Stillwater in second place, and four strokes ahead of Woodbury in fourth.

    Individually, Bella Leonhart had herself a day, firing a 75 for a third-place finish, while Allie Hubbard shot an 88 to tie for 12th place. Ella Brodt was the next highest finisher for the Rangers, earning a 92. The girls prepare for the Section 5AAA tournament at Links Golf Course at Northfork on Tuesday, May 28, and Thursday, May 30.

    Synchro

    The Forest Lake synchronized swim team earned a third-place finish at the Class A state tournament this past weekend on Thursday, May 23, and Friday, May 24, at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center. The Rangers posted a total of 87 points, 30 behind Wayzata (117) in second-place, and 49 points ahead of the fourth-place team in St. Louis Park (38). The girls totaled 13 podium finishes, while also sweeping second-place in every extended division category, a feat that has never been accomplished by Forest Lake until this past weekend. Grace Chatwin, Hailey Johnson, and Alex Ready were all named as all-state swimmers, the most the Rangers have had in its program’s existence.

    In long figures, Brynn Brady earned a fourth-place finish, while Chatwin and Ready placed second and fourth in extended figures. For long solos, Brady took home fifth, with Hannah Dunaway taking sixth, while Chatwin and Ready finished in second and third, respectively. In duets, Chatwin and Johnson took a second place finish in the extended category, and the teams of Mackenna Young and Taylor Vosding; and Dunaway and Destiny Schauer both took third.
