    Track and field competes at SEC meet

    The Forest Lake track and field teams took to their home turf to compete in the Suburban East Conference Championship meet on Thursday, May 23, and came away with some first-place finishes.

    Senior Reid Olson posted a first-place finish in both the 110-meter and 300-meter hurdles. Howie Johnson earned a first place finish in the boys shotput, coming in at 17.99 meters.

    The girls program clinched several more top place finishes, including senior Maja Henslin who took first in the shotput with a personal record of 12.06 meters, and sophomore Alexis Fahey taking third. The two swapped places in the discus throw, with Fahey clinching the top spot at 45.01 meters and Henslin taking third.

    Arielle DeYoung, Lucy Saari, Anna VanAcker and Aaliyah Rodgers took first together in the 4x800 relay.

    Junior Norah Hushagen continued her winning ways in both the 1600-meter and 3200-meter runs, earning times of 5:01.05 and 10:53, respectively.

    In addition to the top-place finishers, 15 Ranger individuals or relay teams landed on the six-place podium in the track events, while seven more Rangers hit the podium in the field events, including a close second-place finish on pole vault by Makayla Miles.

    Both teams kicked off the Section 7AAA tournament on Wednesday, May 29, at 10:30 a.m., after press time. - by Hannah Davis
