    Boys, girls track represent at state

    The Forest Lake track and field team sent a total of 19 individual athletes to the Class AAA state track and field championships at St. Michael-Albertville High School on Thursday, June 6, through Saturday, June 8. Junior Norah Hushagen and sophomore Alexis Fahey showcased their skills by faring quite well in their respective events, with Fahey becoming the state champion in the discus finals by way of her title winning mark of 154-11.00, and Hushagen claiming fifth and sixth-place in the 1600m and 3200m finals, respectively, off times of 4:57.79 and 10:48.05. Junior Savana Sanchez found her way to a 12th-place finish in the 100m dash prelims, missing the mark to qualify for the final event. The 4x800 relay team finished 10th out of 17 schools, while Mikayla Miles and Ellyana Stamp finished 10th and 13th respectively in the pole vault finals.

    On the boys side, senior Reid Olson and sophomore Howie Johnson headlined the boys participants, as Olson earned his way to the 300m hurdles finals with a third-place finish in 39.73 in the prelims, setting up for another third-place finish in the final realm of hurdles event. Olson missed the cut to qualify for the 110m hurdles finals, as he recorded an 11th-place finish off a 15.05 time in the preliminary aspect. Johnson took home 12th overall in the discus finals, before earning third in the shot put finals with a mark of 56-09.75.

    Freshman James McCardle placed 15th in the 800m prelims, as senior Cam Mata ended up in 18th in the long jump finals, setting up for sophomore Jamison Livermore’s 20th-place finish in the pole vault finals.
