The Comfort Lake-Forest Lake Watershed District and Bone Lake Association celebrated the de-listing from the state’s impaired water list on Tuesday, June 11.

Every two years the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency assesses its impaired water list and considers if any are eligible to be taken off the list. This year, Bone Lake was one of the lakes selected due to the efforts of the Comfort Lake-Forest Lake Watershed District, in conjunction with the Bone Lake Association.

There were various speakers during the de-listing celebration to honor the work that has taken place over the past 20 years, since Bone Lake was originally deemed impaired in 2004. While there was plenty of excitement around the collective accomplishment to repair the lake’s ecosystem, Land Management Specialist with the Comfort Lake-Forest Lake Watershed District Aidan Reed reminded residents there is still work to be done.

One of the avenues to ensure Bone Lake remains off the impaired water list is to continue restoring native shoreline vegetation. Reed said he is available to answer questions about native species and how to go about planting them.
