MN Supreme Court denies appeal by Jamal Smith in road rage murder of youth baseball coach
ST PAUL, Minn. — The man convicted of murdering a youth baseball coach in an act of road rage will not get a new trial after the Minnesota Supreme Court denied his appeal. Jamal Smith was convicted of first-degree murder by a Hennepin County jury and sentenced to life in prison for the shooting death of Jay Boughton, who was returning from a baseball game with his teenage son the night of July 6, 2021, when Smith opened fire on Highway 169 in Plymouth. Prosecutors maintained that Smith was speeding and weaving in and out of traffic, nearly hitting Boughton's truck. When the baseball coach flipped him off, Smith fatally shot him in the neck.

Guilty Plea in Rochester Drug Case Involving 4500 Fentanyl Pills
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - A guilty plea was entered today by a Twin Cities woman who was caught with thousands of fentanyl pills in Rochester earlier this year. Court records indicate 31-year-old Safia Sied Mohamed was arrested on March 28 after Rochester Police responded to a report of two people passed out in the vehicle parked inside the city's Second Street Parking Ramp. While speaking to the occupants of the vehicle, one of the responding officers spotted burnt tinfoil and a burnt straw on the floor near the driver's feet.
Blue-green algae detected at Lake Nokomis beach; advisory issued
MINNEAPOLIS — The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB) is warning beach-goers about the presence of blue-green algae in a sample from Lake Nokomis. Parks officials released a statement Wednesday saying the latest sample taken from the lake's main beach revealed exceeding levels of Microcystin, a toxin produced by blue-green algae (cyanobacteria).
