Rangers add reinforcements prior to start of playoffs

The New York Rangers announced on Saturday the recalls of goaltender Louis Domingue and forward Adam Edstrom from the Hartford Wolf Pack in advance of the Stanley Cup Playoffs .

Entering Game 1 of the Eastern Conference First Round against the Washington Capitals at Madison Square Garden on Sunday, the Rangers playoff roster stands at 25 players. There’s no salary cap nor roster limits during the postseason.

Rangers recall two from Hartford Wolf Pack

Domingue, 32, is 16-8-4 for Hartford this season with a 2.66 goals-against average and .909 save percentage. The Rangers were so pleased with the veteran’s performance that they opted to extend him for the 2024-25 season (one-year, $775,000) in March.

The right-handed catching goaltender rewarded the organization on April 12 in a home game against the Springfield Thunderbirds. In the dying seconds, he fired a puck into an empty-net to register a goalie-goal and secure Hartford’s spot in the AHL Calder Cup Playoffs.

“It’s tough to describe the feeling,” Domingue said postgame . “But it’s my daughter’s birthday today, it’s a big day for our family. It’s one way to finish the night, for sure.”

Earlier this season, with both Shesterkin and Jonathan Quick banged up, Domingue picked up one of the Rangers’ historic 55 wins. He stopped 25 shots in a 4-1 win against the Minnesota Wild on Nov. 9 at Madison Square Garden.

As for Edstrom, the 23-year-old impressed his coach during an 11-game stint this season on Broadway. At 6-foot-7 and 234 pounds, the big man also has decent speed to add to his arsenal of talents.

“I thought he was good,” Laviolette said in February . “He’s a big guy that just skates so well. His stick is big, and even in practice yesterday you can just see him moving up and down the ice. He skates with ease.”

The strong winger has no issues going to the dirty areas of the ice, and scored two goals when playing for the Blueshirts. For the Wolf Pack, he’s registered 16 points (11 goals, five assists) in 40 games.
