The New York Rangers made another round of cuts on Tuesday afternoon, when nine players were trimmed from their training camp roster.
Most notably, Adam Erne and Madison Bowey were released from their PTOs with the Rangers. However, they will attend the training camp of New York’s AHL affiliate, the Hartford Wolf Pack, on professional tryouts.
Erne had two assists in two preseason games with the Rangers, one in their 5-2 win over the Boston Bruins, and one in their 3-1 loss to the New Jersey Devils . The forward also got into a fight and totaled seven penalty minutes Monday against the Devils. Bowey, a defenseman, did not record a point in his one preseason outing.
Over the course of his career, Erne has appeared in 379 NHL games, recording 91 points (41 goals, 50 assists) with the Edmonton Oilers, Detroit Red Wings, and Tampa Bay Lightning. In 195 career AHL games with the Condors, Grand Rapids Griffins, and Syracuse Crunch, he has recorded 105 points (47 goals, 58 assists).
Additionally, Blade Jenkins, Nate Sucese, and Blake Hillman were each released from a PTO and returned to Hartford. Each forward signed the PTO to play in the game against the Devils on Monday.
Adam Sykora among Rangers prospects assigned to AHL training camp
The Rangers also assigned four prospects drafted by the organization to the Wolf Pack. That included forward Adam Sykora, their second-round pick (No. 63 overall) in the 2022 NHL Draft. The 20-year-old recorded 23 points (8 goals, 15 assists) in 66 games as a rookie with the Wolf Pack last season.
Also assigned to Hartford were forwards Jaroslav Chmelar, Bryce McConnell-Barker and Dylan Roobroeck.
Chmelar, 21, scored a career-high 15 points (5 goals, 10 assists) in 26 games with Providence College last season as a sophomore. The 6-foot-5 forward also set a new career high in assists and plus/minus with a plus-7 rating.
McConnell-Barker, 20, appeared in 52 games with the Soo Greyhounds of the OHL last season, finishing with 51 points (22 goals, 29 assists). He finished third on the club in points, tied for third in goals, and fifth in assists. In 11 playoff games, the 6-foot-2, 191-pound center added 15 points (5 goals, 10 assists). He also skated in four Calder Cup playoff games with Hartford.
