Horseshoe pit removal sought at Union Fairgrounds
Once a leading advocate for horseshoe competition in Franklin County, Kathy Narup is now calling for part of the horseshoe pits at the Union Fairgrounds to be removed. “I don’t know if we want to remove the whole pit, but if there’s something we can do with the pegs,” she told the Union Park Advisory Board at its July 11 meeting.

SLPS superintendent placed on temporary leave of absence after board holds closed-session meeting
ST. LOUIS — The superintendent of Saint Louis Pubic Schools was placed on a temporary leave of absence by the district's board of education. In a statement, the board said Superintendent Keisha Scarlett was placed on leave, and Deputy Superintendent Millicent Borishade will be acting superintendent. The statement did not provide a reason for the change.
Northwest district to pay $500,000 to fix flash flooding damage
Northwest R-1 School District officials and staff members are scrambling to repair flash flooding damage before school starts next month. The Northwest Board of Education approved a transfer of $500,000 from the district’s operational funds to the district’s capital improvements funds to pay for the repairs and renovations not covered by the district’s insurance carrier.
