MDOT implements Smart Work Zone on Interstate 59 in Forrest County
Road construction on I-59 near Hattiesburg is now working a little smarter. The Mississippi Department of Transportation recently implemented a Smart Work Zone system at the I-59 pavement restoration project in Forrest County to improve safety and traffic flow. With proper installation and use, SWZ systems have been estimated to reduce accidents by 45 percent.

PETAL, Miss. (WDAM) - The Petal community is in shock after three teenagers died in a car crash late Monday night. According to the Forrest County Sheriff’s Office, the crash happened around 11:49 p.m. on June 17 at the intersection of River Road and B&B Loop in the North Forrest community.
Fire claims home Sunday in Sunrise community
FORREST COUNTY, Miss. (WDAM) - A Forrest County home in the Sunrise community was a total loss after an early Sunday morning fire. The Macedonia Volunteer Fire Department was called out to join Sunrise VFD shortly after 4:30 a.m. Sunday for a fire reported on Lakeland Circle in the Pecan Lakes subdivision.
Petal man removed from Forrest County ‘most wanted’ list this week
FORREST COUNTY, Miss. (WDAM) - Bond was set at a cumulative $60,000 for a 22-year-old Petal man who had been arrested this past week after felony warrants were issued. Andrew Sellers, who had moved to the front of line in early June on the Forrest County Sheriff’s Office “most wanted” list, was arrested and booked into the Forrest County Jail Wednesday afternoon.
