FORSYTH, Ill. (WCIA) — The Village of Forsyth is moving forward with plans to bring a dispensary to town.

The village Board of Trustees hosted its regular meeting on Tuesday, during which the trustees discussed the proposal of allowing Illinois Health & Wellness, LLC to open and operate a dispensary in Forsyth. The trustees heard a presentation from the company, which highlighted the benefits that a dispensary would bring to the village. Among those benefits are 20 job positions.

The trustees also heard from village residents both in favor and against the proposal. Some of their concerns were centered on community security, impact on children and Sheriff’s deputies, how sales tax dollars would be used and potential impact on real estate values in the years ahead.

Following the presentation and resident input, the board voted 4-2 to move to the next step — drafting a city ordinance.

The board plans to vote on this ordinance at its next meeting on Aug. 6. If approved, the ordinance will give final approval for the dispensary to open and operate in Forsyth.
