If you hear loud booming noises in north Pueblo over the next month and a half, don't panic — the 4th Combat Aviation Brigade will be conducting aerial gunnery training exercises from July 10 to Aug. 25 on Fort Carson, according to a Tuesday news release from the 4th Infantry Division.
During that timeframe, increased noise and low-flying helicopters can be expected toward the southern end of Fort Carson.
Noise from the trainings might be heard from as far as Pueblo West and northern Pueblo County.
“The aerial gunnery is part of a routine training regimen and is necessary for maintaining all required certifications across the (Combat Aviation Brigade)," Fort Carson officials said in a statement to the Chieftain .
The 4th Combat Aviation Brigade, a component of the greater 4th Infantry Division stationed at Fort Carson, will be training from AH-64 "Apache" helicopters, according to fort officials.
According to the helicopter's manufacturer, Boeing , the AH-64 Apache's longer-range weapons provide accuracy during all-weather and night fighting. The ordnance the helicopter is capable of deploying includes hellfire missiles, 2.75-inch rockets, and a 30mm chain gun, which is capable of firing 650 rounds a minute.
"Fort Carson is dedicated to being good neighbors and will continue to inform the public about training events that may affect surrounding communities. We strive to balance our training requirements with respecting our neighboring communities," Fort Carson officials stated in the release.
