Expect delays at and around the Mulberry Street and College Avenue intersection beginning Monday as stormwater improvement work is set to begin.
Construction work to improve stormwater and pavement infrastructure will start Monday, July 8, in the 100 block of Mulberry Street, just west of South College Avenue, and is expected to wrap up by Friday, July 26.
Areas near downtown Fort Collins — including the College Avenue and Mulberry Street intersection — are at risk for urban flooding during intense rain, according to the city, and this project will address stormwater improvement needs in this area.
The project will be completed in two phases:
- First, work will be done on stormwater infrastructure beneath Mulberry Street in an effort to reduce flooding during significant rains.
- Next, crews will complete asphalt patching, milling and overlay to repave the street following those underground stormwater improvements.
Road and lane closures will also come in two phases. Here’s what to expect:
- Monday, July 8-Friday, July 19:
- Eastbound Mulberry Street closed between College Avenue and Mason Street
- Westbound Mulberry Street reduced to one lane between Mason Street and College Avenue
- Southbound College Avenue reduced to one lane between Mulberry and Myrtle streets
- The crosswalk on the west side of College Avenue at Mulberry Street will be closed and pedestrians will be asked to follow detour signs
- Monday, July 22-Friday, July 26:
- Eastbound Mulberry Street will be closed between Mason Street and College Avenue. Once the work on the eastbound side is complete, the same section of road on the westbound side will be shut down.
- The right turn lane from southbound College Avenue to Mulberry Street will be closed
Work will typically be done from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and alternate routes are suggested during those times.
