The Fort Collins forecast for Sunday and early in the workweek

With Sunday's heat comes a red-flag warning for critical fire conditions in Larimer County and areas west of the Interstate 25 corridor.

In effect from noon to 9 p.m. Sunday, the warning says there could be thunderstorms with dry lightning for the mountains, foothills and eastern Larimer County. This could be accompanied by gusty winds, up to 45 mph.

This will create conditions favorable for lightning-caused fires, the warning states.

In Fort Collins, on Sunday there's a 20% chance of showers and thunderstorms after noon. Winds could gust as high as 16 mph, according to the forecast.

Here's what to expect after that, according to the National Weather Service.

Monday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 96. A 40% chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 1 p.m. North wind 6 to 13 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.

Tuesday: Partly sunny, with a high near 89. Showers and thunderstorms likely after noon. Chance of precipitation is 60%.

Wednesday: Partly sunny, with a high near 84. A slight chance of showers, then showers and thunderstorms likely after noon. Chance of precipitation is 60%.

Day shelter open in Fort Collins

An indoor day shelter will be available at the Murphy Center for Hope, 242 Conifer St., for people experiencing homelessness. Sunday's hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
