Roosevelt National Forest opens historic ranger cabin to rent

Campers delight, there is a new Roosevelt National Forest camping opportunity.

The Canyon Lakes Ranger District of the Roosevelt National Forest is taking reservations to rent a historic assistant ranger cabin starting this month. A ranger cabin is expected be available for rent in 2025.

The cabins are located in Red Feather Lakes, northwest of Fort Collins, and are close to multiple hiking and fishing opportunities, according to a news release. Both have electricity, a fully equipped kitchen, propane heat and indoor restrooms with running water, shower and flush toilets.

Assistant ranger cabin

The assistant ranger cabin is a two-bedroom log cabin and can host four to six people. It has a kitchen with a small table, and there is a queen-size bed in one bedroom and two twin beds in another.

Nightly rental is $175.

Reservations can be made through Recreation.gov.

Ranger cabin

The ranger cabin is a 1,660-square-foot log cabin with three rooms and can host six to eight people.

The cabin has eight twin beds and a dining room with seating for eight.

One existing cabin

The Canyon Lakes Ranger District has one cabin rental at Stub Creek, which is located off the Laramie River Road in northwest Larimer County, that has openings for late summer still available.

It is a two-bedroom cabin that has a fireplace, heat, lights, indoor plumbing, modern kitchen appliances. Maximum occupancy is no more than five people.

It rents for $125 per night.
