Fort Collins police arrest Aurora man for alleged internet sexual exploitation of a child

DENVER ( KDVR ) — A month-and-a-half-long investigation by the Fort Collins Police Services led to the arrest of a 60-year-old Aurora man Thursday for alleged internet-based sexual exploitation of a child.

Roger Leon Estergaard was arrested Thursday on the investigation of three felonies:

• Internet sexual exploitation of a child
• Internet luring of a child
• Attempted sexual assault of a child

Fort Collins detectives said they identified Estergaard as a potential threat after he engaged inappropriately with an underage online persona. After multiple online conservations, Estergaard reportedly traveled to Fort Collins to meet with the “child” he was talking to online.

Police said Estergaard believed he was contacting an underage girl for sexual acts. When he arrived at the meeting location, the SWAT unit and Criminal Impact Unit arrested Estergaard.

“It takes an extensive amount of patience and thorough investigation to pursue leads and orchestrate an arrest like this,” said FCPS Assistant Chief Kristy Volesky, who leads the FCPS Criminal Investigations Division, in a release. “There is great satisfaction when we can report to the community, we have removed this kind of contemplated and planned predatory sexual behavior.”
