Cam'Ron Silmon-Craig is a leader on the Colorado football team and projected to be an integral piece of the Buffaloes' secondary in 2024 for the second consecutive season.

The senior defensive back is also taking advantage of NIL, and taking care of his family in the process.

"I had the chance to buy my mom a car and that was big to me; probably the biggest thing I've ever done in my life," Silmon-Craig told Darius Sanders on the Reach The People Podcast . "I could've spent everything I had in my account on a car and it's worth it just to see her smile.

"That's what means the most to me."

Silmon-Craig began his college football career at Jackson State in 2021 where Deion Sanders (no relation to Darius) was the Tigers' head coach. The former three-star safety racked up 111 total tackles, four sacks and five interceptions across two seasons (25 games) at Jackson State, including a first-team All-SWAC campaign in 2022.

After following Deion Sanders to Colorado, Silmon-Craig played in all 12 games (10 starts) for the Buffs last season and tied with Travis Hunter for the team lead in interceptions (three).

It was around this time last year that Silmon-Craig made a promise to his mother.

"I told my mom a year ago, 'just hold on for one more year and I'm going to get you a car,'" Silmon-Craig told Darius Sanders. "If you would've seen, my mom is a branch manager and she drove a little pickup truck. A black pickup truck. I don't want my mom to be this pretty little lady jumping out of a pickup truck.

"She probably doesn't even know that ate at me. For years that ate at me so bad. I had to make something shake. When I pulled up and I was able to give it (the car) to her, it was probably the best feeling of my life."

Silmon-Craig kept his word ahead of his senior season at Colorado.

The Buffaloes open their 2024 campaign on Thursday, Aug. 29 against North Dakota State.
