An athlete with Fort Collins roots is bringing home a silver medal from the Paris Olympics for the United States.

Haley Batten won silver in the women's mountain biking competition Sunday, marking the best finish ever by an American rider in the event.

Batten's hometown is listed as Park City, Utah, on her USA Cycling profile and her current residence is in California. But Batten was born in Fort Collins, according to NBC Sports and her Paris Olympics profile .

Her Olympics bio says Batten "first learned to cycle at age six when her family lived in Germany and took part in her first race at age nine while living in Park City, UT."

Batten's first medal comes in her second Olympic appearance after she finished ninth in Tokyo in 2021. She won her first national title at age 14 and turned professional at 17, becoming the youngest member of Team USA mountain biking upon her qualification to compete in the Tokyo Games.
