HORSEHEADS, N.Y. ( WETM ) — Bikers raise nearly $4,000 dollars in the 17th Annual Troop Ride. The bike charity aims to support active service members in the military and their families where the proceeds go toward the United Service Organizations (USO) at the Fort Drum military base.

Close to 250 people signed up and rode 100 miles around the New York Twin Tier region. Many riders were previous participants of the event and were happy to express again their appreciation for the military.

Troop Ride returns for its 17th year this weekend

Army veteran Nate Burnett said, “Being able to come to an event like this and people putting events like this for soldiers and everyone else sets future generations that are going in, is really nice the USO will always kind of have these foundations and always be around.”

Another rider David Deming added, “It’s an overwhelming feeling of American pride to be able to help these individuals out, that help and sacrifice so much for us. This is the absolute least that we can do for them.”

Next year’s Troop Ride will be on July 19th at His Tabernacle Family Church in Horseheads. Registration will begin at 8:00 a.m. and the bikes will leave at 10:00 a.m.
