FORT HALL — On July 5, 2024 at approximately 6:23PM, the Fort Hall Police Department received a report of a 13 year old Juvenile female being sexually assaulted by a 20 year old adult male at a residence on Batt Lane.

When Fort Hall Police Officers responded to the residence to investigate they were met by a family member saying the adult male was not at the residence but Officers did hear movement inside the home.

The Officers were let inside the home by the family member but were confronted at the front door by the suspect who had a gun.

Officers told him to drop the gun but he did not comply and he rushed out the house pointing the gun at one of the officers.

There was an exchange of gun fire and the suspect was shot as well as one of the Officers.

Life saving measures were administered but the suspect succumbed to his injuries.

The Officer who was shot was transported to a local hospital where he underwent treatment and was released from the hospital.

The FBI will be leading the investigation into the officer involved shooting and the Bingham County Sheriff’s Office will be conducting the administrative investigation.

This is an ongoing investigation, there is no danger to the public at this time.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the suspect's family and our officers and staff that were involved.
