The two cars that were used in the drive-by shooting that killed a toddler at a birthday party Sunday in Fort Lauderdale have been found, but no one has been arrested yet.
Rylo Yancy, 3, was playing on the playground during a child’s birthday party at Riverland Park on Sunday afternoon when a shooter or shooters fired, struck Rylo and immediately fled. Rylo turned 3 in May.
Fort Lauderdale Police said Thursday that a 2024 red Mercedes-Benz C 300 and a 2017 black Mercedes-Benz C 300 were the two cars used in the shooting, and both have been found and recovered. Broward County Crime Stoppers has increased the reward for tips that lead to an arrest to up to $10,000.
Elected officials, first responders, activists and Rylo’s family members gathered at Riverland Park earlier this week, demanding an end to the gun violence and for people to come forward with information.
“Rylo was a joyful toddler who loved Spider-Man, his parents, grandmothers, grandfather, aunties, uncles, and cousins passionately,” relative Damia Gilner wrote in an online GoFundMe fundraiser . “Every Sunday, he served as a little usher alongside his grandmother, who he was attached at the hip with. His immediate family members are shattered and will never be the same.”
Gilner urged anyone with information to come forward in order to hold “those responsible accountable for their actions.” Rylo was his parents’ only son, she wrote.
“If you know something, say something,” Gilner wrote. “You can remain anonymous.”
Authorities ask anyone with information to call Detective Juan Rodriguez at 954-828-6673, the Homicide Tipline at 954-828-6677 or Broward County Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477.
