North Jersey residents can proudly say they were smarter than three "Jeopardy!" contestants for at least one clue this week — that is, as long as they know where Fort Lee is located.

The Bergen County borough was the main hint in the question — technically, the answer — asked in the Double Jeopardy round of Monday's show. The full clue, worth $800 in the the category "The World in 1776," read: "The Revolution was struggling when the Brits took Fort Lee in this state, future home of Dr. Joyce Brothers & Mr. Richard Feder."

On paper, the clue was the second-easiest among the five in the category. But it turned out to be a triple stumper, with none of the three players — two California natives and another from Rochester, New York — ringing in correctly.

The clue offered two additional hints for contestants and viewers at home to correctly answer "What is New Jersey?" even if they are not familiar with the Garden State.

Brothers, a psychologist and advice columnist, lived in Fort Lee at the time of her death in 2013. The borough was also referenced frequently in the early days of the Weekend Update segment on "Saturday Night Live," when character Roseanne Roseannadanna, portrayed by Gilda Radner, would read letters from "a Mr. Richard Feder from Fort Lee, New Jersey."

The three players' lack of New Jersey knowledge was disheartening to at least one native of the state, who commented in the Jeopardy! subreddit , "I grew up in Fort Lee so I was very disappointed in these contestants for not getting the answer." This was followed by a response from another resident, which illustrated the cultural divide often seen between North and South Jersey.

"As a born-and-raised New Jerseyan I am ashamed to say I completely blanked," the comment read, "but in my defense I am from South Jersey and I don’t know either of those people."

Returning champion Isaac Hirsch finished with $20,001 to win Monday's episode, prevailing over challengers Brenna Sniatecki and James Hayakawa. Hirsch now has a nine-day total of $215,390.
