As part of the Army’s force restructure, the 399th Army Band at Fort Leonard Wood is slated to inactivate by Oct. 14 after nearly 70 years.

They have performed numerous times in the county, including at events in Houston.

Discussions surrounding the band’s potential inactivation have been ongoing for several months, and the final decision from the Army was received July 3. Planning for this change is underway and updates will be provided on the band’s ability to support command and community events between now and October.

“We understand the impact the 399th Army Band has on the community, and the leaders from the U.S. Army Maneuver Support Center of Excellence and Fort Leonard Wood are committed to providing a smooth transition for all involved,” according to a press release from Fort Leonard Wood.

The 399th Army Band has served the Fort Leonard Wood community since 1955, supporting soldiers, families and civilians throughout the region and performing for vast audiences across multiple states.

Plans are underway for a farewell tour, and updates will be provided as they become available.

For questions about requests made between now and October, contact the Fort Leonard Wood Public Affairs Office at 573-563-4145.
