DALLAS (WHNT) — Fort Payne native Alex McPhearson is one of the most accurate kickers in the country, but he may not be able to go when Auburn kicks off the season in August.

According to Hugh Freeze, McPhearson is battling an intestinal issue that may cause him to miss time this season.

Freeze has raved about McPhearson over his two seasons on the Plains.

“Most accurate kicker I’ve ever been around. Amazing that he has the strength for the size body he has,” said Freeze. “… We need Alex to get healthy.”

Freeze said they are working with doctors to get McPhearson healthy. However, he feels like the team is in good hands with backup kicker Towns Mcgough, who made seven field goals in the Tigers’ spring game.

“We are thankful we have a good backup in Towns,” said Freeze. “But, we sure hope Alex, he is so cool and consistent, hope he’s ready to go.”

McPhearson was a perfect 13-13 on field goals and 40-40 on PATs in 2023.
