Trussville City Council honors student athlete, updates public on Chalkville Road expansion
TRUSSVILLE, Ala.—Family and friends were in attendance as Jackson Howell accepted two honors at the July 24 meeting of the Trussville City Council. Council member Alan Taylor read a proclamation honoring Howell for being the first person in Alabama to ever receive a scholarship from the National Football Foundation. The NFF announced 84 incoming college freshmen athletes to its 2024 Team of Distinction. According to the proclamation, the NFF has presented the scholarships for incoming college freshmen athletes since 2018 based on “academic achievement, athletic accolades, and community involvement through high school.

Negro Southern League Museum of Birmingham unveils exhibit at Jefferson County courthouse
JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ala. (WBMA) — The Negro Southern League Museum of Birmingham unveiled a historical exhibit at the Jefferson County Courthouse Tuesday morning. The county said the museum created a special exhibit on the history of the Birmingham Industrial League in six display windows outside of the Commission Chambers.

Planned Water Outage in Cedar Bluff Wednesday

Alabama students target international rocketry crown at Farnborough
A team of high school students from Alabama will compete for global honors in rocket building at the 2024 Farnborough International Airshow. The students from Tharptown High School in Russellville won the American Rocketry Challenge in May, topping 922 teams in the overall competition and the top 100 that faced off in the national finals in The Plains, Virginia.
Woodstock 5K: Run and Win the Alabama Championship
ANNISTON — The 43rd annual Woodstock 5K will again serve as the Alabama 5K Championship, as sanctioned by the Road Runners Club of America. The Woodstock 5K is scheduled for Aug. 3 at Anniston High School along Woodstock Avenue It has played host for 17 RRCA championship races, including six national championships, five regional championships and six state championships. A 16-year-old girl is dead after a shooting early Wednesday morning.
