FORT PIERCE − Fort Pierce Police are investigating a shooting incident last week that killed a 27-year-old man, a police spokesperson said Monday.
The incident occurred about 7:18 p.m. Friday in the 2800 block of Dunbar Street, police spokesperson April Lee said. The location is just south of Avenue D and west of North 25th Street.
“Officers responded to the location in reference to a gunshot wound,” Lee said Monday. “When they got there they located a male who had been shot.”
Lee said the man, a 27-year-old Fort Pierce resident, was taken to HCA Florida Lawnwood Hospital in Fort Pierce where he succumbed to his injuries.
The identify of the deceased was not released.
According to a police report, one person told investigators he was walking east on Dunbar Street to head to a store when he heard what sounded like fireworks. He turned and saw a person dressed in dark clothing shooting what appeared to be a handgun at a car parked at his home. He saw the person enter a dark sport utility vehicle and leave.
He ran to his home and saw the man who was shot exit a vehicle and fall to the ground.
Another person said the person who was shot had been delivering medication. He said a dark vehicle pulled up and a person exited and began shooting at the vehicle the victim was in.
No other information was immediately available.
