    MCSO: Fort Plain man intentionally crashes car, flees scene

    CANAJOHARIE, N.Y. ( NEWS10 ) — A Fort Plain man was arrested after intentionally crashing a car, causing injury to a passenger, fleeing on foot, and causing damage to a police car door and window, per the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office. Robert Shutts, 41, faces several charges.

    On Wednesday, deputies responded to Old Fort Plain Road in Canajoharie for reports of a car crash. After an investigation, deputies say they learned Shutts, identified as the driver, intentionally crashed the car and caused injury to a passenger. After, Shutts is accused of fleeing on foot before police arrival.

    Police later found Shutts and took him into custody. The Canahjoharie Police Department turned him over to a deputy at the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office. While being taken to be processed, deputies say Shutts intentionally kicked a window of a patrol car and caused damage to the door and window.

    Charges:

    • Second-degree reckless endangerment
    • Second-degree criminal mischief
    • Second-degree assault
    • Third-degree criminal mischief
    • Second-degree aggravated unlicensed operation
    • Leaving the scene of a personal injury accident
    • Open container/consumption in a motor vehicle

    Shutts was arraigned at the Canajoharie Town Court and was remanded to the Montgomery County Correctional Facility without bail.
