    Below are summaries of local VFW baseball games during the week of July 4 and July 10, compiled by Nick Tabatt

    Brewers lose to Foley

    The Pierz Brewers hosted their lasted regular season game against Foley Wednesday, July 10. The Brewers fell short 4-1. Gunnar Wicklund and Phil Zynda each threw three strikeouts on the mound and allowed two walks. At the plate, Wicklund went 2-4, hitting a home run. The Brewers with walks were Zylda, Rylee Rauch, Mike Poser and Chuck Boser. Foley Finished the game with four hits and no errors. The Brewers also had four hits and two errors.

    Rebels upset Foley

    The Fort Ripley Rebels had a long road game against Foley, Sunday, July 7. The game lasted 10 innings, but the Rebels came on top, winning 8-6.

    Brett Kramer was the winning pitcher, throwing two strikeouts intwo innings.

    Isaac Hansen pitched seven innings, throwing seven strikeouts. He allowed seven hits and no walks.

    At the plate, the Rebels had three home runs, hit by Eli Roberts, Alex Haapajoki and Mason Argir. Roberts had two RBIs while Agir and Haapjoki had one. Despite the loss, Foley led the Rebels 12-8 in hits.

    Skis dominate Riverdogs

    The Sobieski Skis showed no mercy as they defeated the Royalton Riverdogs 14-5 at home. Beau Thoma pitched seven innings, throwing seven strikeouts and allowed two walks. Joey Hanowski went 4-4 at the plate with four RBIs and a home run. Matt Filippi and Collin Kray had two RBIs. The Skis finished the game with 21 hits and two errors.

    The Riverdogs also had home runs hit by Joe Gaida and Nathan Psyck. Gaida had three runs batted in and Psyck with two. Tyler Jendro went 2-3 at the plate, hitting a double and scoring one run. The Riverdogs had eight hits and one error

    Swans win home game against Riverdogs

    The Swanville Swans hosted the Royalton Riverdogs. Saturday, July 6, winning 7-4. Levi Beseman pitched six innings, throwing five strikeouts. Troy Evans was on the mound for two innings, with two strikeouts. Hudson Pung went 2-4 at the plate, with a double and two runs. Noah Urman also went 2-4 with three RBIs. Levi Beseman threw five strikeouts in six innings. The Swans had eight hits and no errors.

    The Riverdogs’ Tyler Jendro went 3-4 at the plate with two doubles, one walk and one run. Brady Yourczek had two RBIs and two sacrifice hits. Nathan Pyck pitched six innings on the mound, throwing six strikeouts and allowed six hits. The Riverdogs had 11 hits and two errors.

    Bluejays upset Bulldogs

    The Upsala Bluejays celebrated Independence Day, beating the Pierz Bulldogs 15-8 on the road Thursday, July 4. The Bluejays’ Matt Swanson, pitched eight innings, throwing four strikeouts and allowing three walks. CJ Clear pitched one inning, with one strikeout. Swanson also led the team at the plate, going 3-5. He earned two runs, had six RBIs and hit three doubles. The Bluejays finished with 16 hits and four errors.

    The Bulldogs’ Gunnar Gustafson led the team on the mound, pitching over two innings, and throwing four strikeouts. Chad Herman and Brayden Haberman each had two runs batted in. Other Bulldogs with RBIs were Cody Weiss and Teddy Dehler. As a whole, the team had 10 hits and five errors.
