FORT SMITH, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — The Fort Smith Police Department says one of its officers was involved in a shooting incident on Thursday morning, according to a news release.

FSPD said around 12:13 a.m. on Thursday near Zero Street, officers were shot at by the occupants of a “suspicious vehicle” and an officer exchanged gunfire.

Police say the vehicle is a newer model dark-colored Dodge Charger with a spoiler. It may have sustained damage to the front windshield and hood from gunfire.

The vehicle then fled the scene, according to the department. No arrests have been made and there were no reported injuries.

Police say the shooting is undergoing an internal review, and the involved officer has been placed on leave pending the outcome.

The department said the investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to call FSPD at 479-709-5000 or 911.
