A NLIHC study reports that a worker earning minimum wage in the state of Georgia would need to work 3.5 full-time jobs to be able to maintain rent for an apartment. For roughly 1.4 million people living in Georgia, a person earning minimum wage would need to work nearly four full-time jobs — or over 140 hours a week — to make monthly rent payments.

Georgia Ports welcomes MANA Nutrition’s new food processing facility
MANA Nutrition leaders and employees hosted a groundbreaking ceremony July 17, 2024, to commemorate an important new addition to the company’s supply chain. The 320,000 square-foot warehouse in Pooler, Ga., is four miles from the Port of Savannah and will enable the company to double its current production while adding new storage capacity. Design-build firm A M King will transform the unfinished warehouse into an advanced food processing facility, which will open in Q1 2025 and produce MANA’s Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF) and Ready-to-Use Supplemental Food (RUSF). The site will complement the company’s Fitzgerald, Ga., production and storage facility.
Lightning strike disables vehicle on I-16 near Metter
CANDLER COUNTY, Ga. — Candler County deputies say a vehicle was disabled in the middle of I-16 after being struck by lightning. Deputies say Metter Police initially responded around 3:30 p.m. Saturday to mile marker 103, that's near the Metter and Reidsville exit #104. The car came to a stop in the emergency lane on the westbound side.

Public Service Commission to take up plan to add new fossil fuels to energy mix
ATLANTA – Georgia energy regulators already have approved a request by Georgia Power for a significant increase in electrical generating capacity to meet the needs of a growing state.
