Ft. Walton Beach Traffic Alert: Perry Ave to close on weekends until Labor Day

FORT WALTON BEACH — Drivers in Fort Walton Beach should take note of a traffic change that will affect access to U.S. 98 until the end of the summer season.

On Friday, June 28, the right turn lane of Perry Avenue on the south side of U.S. 98 will be closed from 6 p.m. Fridays through 6 p.m. Sundays until the end of Labor Day weekend. During the closure, drivers cannot turn eastbound onto U.S. 98 from the intersection.

To access U.S. 98, motorists will now be directed to the Eglin Parkway intersection.

The turn lane closure aims to reduce traffic impacts and congestion on residential streets as drivers attempt to drive through neighborhoods north of Brooks Bridge to access U.S. 98 from Brooks Street and Perry Avenue.

To alert motorists of the change, a message board will be placed on Eglin Parkway, Hollywood Boulevard and at the Perry Avenue intersection to warn drivers. City officials also note that navigation apps, such as Google Maps and Waze, may not take notice of the new traffic flow.
