FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) — The youngest member of the Fort Wayne TinCaps will be heading to Arlington, Texas, to play alongside some of baseball’s top prospects in the MLB All-Star Futures Game.

Catcher Ethan Salas, 18, is one of three catchers who were selected to represent the National League in the game and one of two representatives for the San Diego Padres.

Salas’ selection marks the third straight year a member of the TinCaps has played in the Futures Game, with Washington Nationals outfielder Robert Hassell III and Padres outfielder Jackson Merrill being the last two representatives.

Considered by some to be the top international prospect in the 2023 class, Salas signed with the Padres for $5.6 million and made it to Double-A in his first year of professional baseball before rejoining the TinCaps for the 2024 season.

Although Salas has struggled offensively with a .191 batting average, he also has a 13% walk rate and has caught baserunners stealing 17 times.

According to MLB.com, Salas has “the potential to be a multi-tooled star” at the position who features a “smooth left-handed swing” and the potential to provide above-average power in his prime.

In addition to Salas, who is ranked as the 6th overall prospect in baseball by MLB.com, the Futures Game will also showcase many top-100 prospects:
