FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – In her freshman season at Bishop Luers in 2005-06, Mary Hathaway helped the Knights take home a state title. Fast forward to this past season, Hathaway celebrated the Knights’ record seventh state title as part of the coaching staff.

This fall, Hathaway’s basketball journey comes full circle when she officially takes over as head coach of the Knights’ girls basketball program.

Hathaway takes over for Mark Pixley, who stepped down after 10 seasons leading Bishop Luers. The head coach is a Bishop Luers grad and former Division I standout at Winthrop University. Shortly after wrapping up her college career, Hathaway returned to Luers to serve as an assistant coach for Pixley.

After 10 years serving on the Knights’ coaching staff, Hathaway knows there are massive changes by sliding over one seat on the bench. She is also tasked with reloading a Bishop Luers’ squad that only returns four players from last year’s state championship team.

Bishop Luers’ full schedule will be released during the upcoming school year.
