WHITLEY and ALLEN Co., Ind. (WANE) – A chase led police throughout Whitley and Allen counties, sometimes reaching speeds of over 100 miles per hour. The chase ultimately ended in the arrest of an Illinois man.

The chase started Sunday morning around 8:45 a.m. on US 30 near County Road 400 West in Whitley County. An Indiana State Police Trooper attempted to pull over a Nissan Rogue for speeding. The driver sped off during the attempted traffic stop, according to ISP.

The driver continued on eastbound US 30 at a high rate of speed. The driver reached speeds of over 95 mph, according to ISP.

Columbia City Police attempted to stop the driver with stop sticks at two different places on US 30. However, the attempts didn’t work and the driver continued into Allen County reaching speeds of over 100 mph, police said.

Allen County Sheriff’s officers would once again try to stop the driver with stop sticks, but it did not work. Indiana State Police stopped chasing the driver once the chase hit Fort Wayne City limits.

The Fort Wayne Police Department was already waiting for the driver. The chase continued through city streets before FWPD stopped the driver with stop sticks. The driver attempted to run away, but FWPD apprehended him about a half hour after the chase began, according to ISP.

ISP identified the driver as Jeffrey L. Price, 44, from Chicago. He’s facing a Level 6 felony of resisting law enforcement, misdemeanor charges of reckless driving and driving while suspended, plus multiple traffic-related infractions.

Price was taken to a hospital to be checked out and then booked into the Whitley County Jail.
