July 2024 may be the first below average month in some time

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – It has been quite awhile since we have been tracking a month with below average temperatures…

Just take a look at the good amount of blue days on our July 2024 calendar so far. As of July 21st, we are running nearly two degrees below average for the month.

This comes after every month so far in 2024 has featured above average temperatures. If you go back even before that though, the last time we saw a month end with below average temperatures was back in August of 2023!

Our average high temperature for most of the month is 84 degrees, so let’s take a look at temperatures around or below this mark. In terms of July days at 84 degrees or lower, we have seen 16 of them so far this year, including Monday. Our average is 15 and last year we saw 16 days. Our record most July days at 84 degrees or lower is 29 days back in 2009, while the fewest is three days back in 2011 and 1955.

Taking things a step further though, let’s look back at July days in the 70s or lower. We have seen 5 of them so far this year, just like last year. Our average is 6 days. Our most days in the 70s or lower in July is 15 days in 2014 and our least amount of days is no days at all in 2011 and 1955.
