Massive ranch that’s the size of a Texas city lists for $142M. See New Mexico property

It’s called the Great Western Ranch for a reason.

The property — located in Quemado, New Mexico — is nearly 800 square miles, with a total of 504,801 acres, which spans larger than the city of Houston, Texas, a news release says.

“Well-watered, there are 88 currently functional and operational wells, most of them either solar or electric,” the listing on Hall & Hall says. “There are hundreds of dirt tanks, catch ponds, seasonal playas, ponds, small lakes, and stock tanks for livestock and wildlife watering.”

According to the release, there are eight homes on the spacious property, including a primary lodge and ranch manager’s house, an equipment shop, barns and corrals.

But the size and natural beauty that flows in from every direction isn’t the only draw of the ranch.

“There is history here, too, from the Anasazi and Spanish explorers to the early homesteaders and ranchers of today,” the listing says. “The ranch has historical and archaeological sites, including Anasazi petroglyphs, ruins, and the tumbled-down stone homes and corrals of New Mexico’s earliest homesteaders.”

The area is known for its wildlife, including bull elk, mule deer and mountain lions.

“One of the largest single landholdings available in the United States, the Great Western Ranch presents a rare opportunity to acquire an exceptionally well-diversified, income-generating, multi-dimensional land asset class, where its value is directly tethered to its rarity and its inability to be replicated,” the listing describes.
