Will H-E-B be open on Labor Day? What about Walmart? See Fort Worth holiday closures

Labor Day is to celebrate the dedication of American workers , but not everyone can have the holiday off.

Labor Day is the first Monday of September. This year, we’ll celebrate on Sept. 2. Most companies give their employees a three-day weekend, which also doubles as people’s last-minute summer vacation.

Most corporate businesses will be closed, giving their workers a well-deserved day off. However, some labor forces cannot be put on hold. First responders, for example, still have to work.

The city of Fort Worth announced, “ Most city offices, including City Hall , will be closed Monday, Sept. 2, for the Labor Day holiday. Emergency services will be available as usual.”

Here is a heads-up of businesses that will be open or closed on the holiday.

City services

City of Fort Worth government offices will be closed for the holiday. However, they assure that services like garbage pick up and public transit will still operate. Buses and public transportation may be operating on their Sunday schedules or as regular. Check the Fort Worth government website for details about each line.

Several government-operated services will be closed. Here’s where:

• City’s four Drop-Off waste Stations and the Environmental Collection Center.

• Libraries

• Outdoor recreation: Haws Athletic Center, late-night programs and the Log Cabin Village.

• Fort Worth Animal Shelter’s Chuck & Brenda Silcox Animal Care & Adoption Center and North Animal Campus.

Other locations that will remain open on Sept. 2 goes as follows:

• Chisholm Trail, Diamond Hill and Victory Forest community centers.

• Golf courses

• McLeland Tennis Center

• Fort Worth Botanic Garden

• Fort Worth Water Gardens

• Fort Worth Nature Center & Refuge

• Marine Park Pool and Forest Park Pool.

• Two PetSmart Adoption Centers at Hulen and Alliance will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The next city council meeting will commence on Tuesday, Sept. 10.

Grocery and liquor stores

Most grocery stores will be open; however, some may have varying hours. Be sure to check your local store’s hours before heading over. A list of what will be open goes as follows:

• H-E-B

• Kroger

• Tom Thumb

• Whole Foods, modified hours

• Target

• Walmart

All liquor stores will be closed on Sunday as usual but are allowed to remain open on the holiday, according to the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission . However, grocery stores open on Labor Day will still offer beer and wine.

Shopping malls

Most malls in the Dallas-Fort Worth area are open on Labor Day and give plenty of excuses to spend your off.

• Stockyards will still be in full swing with a long weekend sponsored by Cavendar’s.

• Clearfork retail will also be open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

• Hulen Mall open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

• Ridgmar Mall is open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m
