Denton Ryan coach Aaron De La Torre dies eight days after police closed assault investigation

Denton Ryan defensive coordinator Aaron De La Torre died on Wednesday.

His son, Wylie East co-defensive coordinator and linebackers coach Alex De La Torre, confirmed the news on X, formerly known as Twitter. Aaron De La Torre was in his seventh season with the Raiders.

“I want to thank everyone who has reached out with support so far during this extremely tough time,” Alex De La Torre wrote. “I respectfully ask that everyone please give our family some privacy over the next few days as we continue to grieve and process the loss of my father. Thank you.”

Denton ISD sent the Star-Telegram a statement.

“The loss of Aaron De La Torre is a tragedy. He was a husband, father, grandfather and friend to many. Please pray for those whose lives he impacted and the Ryan High School family as they navigate this sudden and difficult loss.

“We have reached out to Coach De La Torre’s family to let them know we will provide support during this unexpected loss, and they have asked us to respect their privacy.”

De La Torre played football for Stephen F. Austin and was a four-year starter as a defensive tackle. He had a brief playing career in the NFL and in NFL Europe.

In 2006, he began his coaching career at SFA. From 2009 to 2011, he coached at Denton Ryan High School . After, he spent six years as the head coach at Irving High School before returning to Denton Ryan to serve as a defensive coordinator under Dave Henigan.

On Oct. 1, the Hickory Creek police closed an investigation that allegedly involved De La Torre assaulting a minor, according to a press release.

“Investigators have obtained all known CCTV footage of the interaction between the adult and the juvenile male. The Investigator met with the juvenile’s parent and conducted a full case review with her, including all available videos and witness statements.

“After the complete case review, the juvenile’s parent decided that although she does not support the actions taken towards her son by an adult, she believes that no criminal activity occurred and chose not to press charges.”

Denton ISD released a statement.

“Given that local law enforcement has closed its investigation regarding an alleged incident involving an employee with no charges being filed, the district’s involvement in the matter is also complete.”

Videos detailing the alleged assault went viral on social media, collecting thousands of views. ThatDaneshGuy, a social media content producer specializing in exposing, targeting, and identifying wrongdoings, released a video from a bystander’s point of view.
