    Despite Columbus Day being a federal holiday, many businesses are remaining open in Fort Worth.

    Columbus Day was founded by President Benjamin Harrison in 1892 to commemorate the 400th anniversary of Christopher Columbus’s discovery of America. According to the Library of Congress, President Franklin Delano Roosevelt designated Columbus Day as a national holiday in 1934 .

    The holiday is recognized on the second Monday in October every year.
