Students and staff at Texas Wesleyan University were given the all-clear after more than 90 minutes of sheltering in place on Tuesday afternoon while police responded to a report of an armed person on campus.

Fort Worth police responded to a report of a person with a weapon on campus at 2:17 p.m. Shortly after, the university told students and faculty to shelter in place.

Fort Worth police officers were still on campus as of 3:30 p.m., said department spokesperson Officer Jimmy Pollozani. A police helicopter was circling over the campus for nearly an hour until about 3:45 p.m.

There were no immediate reports of gunfire or injuries at the eastern Fort Worth campus along East Rosedale Street, in the Polytechnic Heights neighborhood.

The university posted on Facebook at 3:48 p.m. that the shelter in place had been lifted. The shelter-in-place was a “precautionary measure” after the campus security team received a report of a “suspicious individual, potentially with a gun,” on campus, according to the Facebook post.

    This is a developing story.
