TCU’s sudden decline in 2023 caught most people by surprise, but realistically, the Frogs should bounce back in 2024. They have the weapons on offense, they added talent to the secondary on defense and the scheme changes should do wonders. If they get high-level quarterback play, the Frogs could make a Big 12 title push.

TCU 2024 Season Preview and Prediction

    Previewing TCU's Offense for 2024

Just one year removed from appearing in both the Big 12 and College Football Playoff National Championship games, TCU’s offense went from a strength to a weakness. Chandler Morris was unable to get things going at quarterback, leading head coach Sonny Dykes to turn to Josh Hoover as the starter. Hoover provided a more steady hand and also got some much-needed experience that should translate well this season.

It also helps that the Horned Frogs will be returning two of their three top pass-catchers in Savion Williams and JP Richardson, who combined for 87 catches for 1,109 yards and seven receiving touchdowns. To add to that dynamic duo, the Frogs went out and landed Boise State transfer Eric McAlister, who at 6-foot-3 gives Hoover another massive target to throw to.

The expectation is that Cam Cook, Trent Battle and Nate Palmer will carry the load at running back following Emani Bailey’s departure, but the offensive line is still the biggest question mark for this unit. The offense will be as good as the reconstructed line allows it to be.

    Previewing TCU's Defense for 2024

It is an out with the old, in with the new situation on defense as Joe Gillespie is out as defensive coordinator and Andy Avalos is in. The former Boise State head coach is expected to change up the defense and bring a more aggressive approach to the team. Look for Cal transfer Kaleb Elarms-Orr to be a staple in the box at linebacker for Avalos’ defense.

The secondary also will look brand new after the Frogs ranked 11th in the conference in pass defense in 2023. If this defense can apply more pressure on the quarterback, not get beat as much in the passing game and create turnovers after ranking No. 115 in the country in takeaways, it should be much improved.

    Previewing TCU's Specialists for 2024

The Horned Frogs will be fielding both a new kicker and punter this season. Ethan Craw comes over from Pro Kick Academy in Australia to handle the punting duties. At kicker, they will turn to freshman Kyle Lemmermann, who was ranked as one of the best kickers in the country as a high schooler. Richardson, who is always dynamic in space, should handle the punt returning duties, while the electric Major Everhart will again return kicks.
