On Monday at 12:01 p.m. the NWS Fort Worth TX issued an updated heat advisory. The advisory is for Montague, Cooke, Grayson, Fannin, Lamar, Young, Jack, Wise, Denton, Collin, Hunt, Delta, Hopkins, Palo Pinto, Parker, Tarrant, Dallas, Rockwall, Kaufman, Van Zandt, Rains, Hood, Somervell, Johnson, Ellis, Henderson, Hill and Navarro counties.

Heat index values up to 107 degrees for portions of north central and northeast Texas until 8 p.m. Tuesday.

"Hot temperatures and high humidity will increase the risk for heat-related illnesses to occur, particularly for those working or participating in outdoor activities," explains the NWS.

This advisory is in effect until Tuesday at 8 p.m.

NWS Heat Wave Safety Advice: Protect yourself with these recommendations

    • Consume plenty of fluids to stay hydrated.

    • Find cool shelter: Stay in an air-conditioned room.

    • Stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.

    • Ensure child and pet safety: Do not leave young children and pets unattended in vehicles when car interiors can reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes.

    • Take extra precautions outdoors: If you work or spend time outside, be sure to take additional safety measures.

    • Time your activities wisely: When possible, reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening.

    • Recognize warning signs: Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.

    • Dress for comfort: Wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing to stay cool.

To minimize risks during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) advises incorporating frequent rest breaks in shaded or air-conditioned areas. If someone experiences heat-related symptoms, promptly relocate them to a cool and shaded spot. In case of an emergency, dial 911.
