Fort Worth Police are joining a 105-personnel delegation from Texas to secure the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee this week.

Fort Worth has the largest contingent officers with 46 followed by Austin with 27, McAllen with 19, and Dallas with 13, according to Texas Gov. Greg Abbott.

“As the nation continues to process the assassination attempt on President Donald Trump and grieve the tragic loss of innocent life, now more than ever, it is critical that we stand together to protect our fellow Americans against those who wish us harm,” Abbott said in a press release.

He also noted the state is willing to send officers to the Democratic National Convention in Chicago between Aug. 19 and 22.

Fort Worth Mayor Mattie Parker said in a post on the social media platform X she was proud to have the city’s police department on hand to secure the Republican Convention.

She referenced a post on the city website noting that the $220,456 the city is spending on salaries, overtime and travel expenses for the officers will be reimbursed by federal grant.

This is the third time Fort Worth has sent officers to help secure a national political convention. The city sent 30 officers to the 2016 Republican National Convention in Cleveland, and 23 officers to the 2012 Democratic National Convention in 2012 in Charlotte, North Carolina, according to the city.
